Last Drive-In
Documentary about the last drive-in movie theaters
What it was meant to be
A feature-length documentary visiting the remaining drive-in theaters across America and interviewing their owners. Wanted to capture a disappearing piece of Americana before it was gone.
Where it stopped
Filmed at 12 different drive-ins across 8 states. Conducted 30+ hours of interviews. Had beautiful footage of sunsets, projectors, families in cars. Rough cut was about 2 hours long.
Why it stopped
Realized I enjoyed the road trip and conversations more than the actual filmmaking. The project gave me an excuse to travel and meet interesting people. Once filming ended, I had no interest in the tedious editing process. The journey was the point, not the destination.
What, if anything, replaced it
I still travel and take photos, but I don't pretend they're "projects."
