A 16-week training plan to run my first marathon. Had a structured schedule from a running coach, joined a local running group, bought proper shoes and gear. Goal was to finish Chicago Marathon in under 4 hours.
Made it through 5 weeks of training. Was running 20-25 miles per week. Felt strong, saw progress, actually enjoyed the early morning runs.
Developed plantar fasciitis in week 6. Tried to push through it. Made it worse. Doctor said I needed to stop running completely for 8 weeks. By the time I recovered, the marathon was 3 weeks away. Couldn't safely build back up.
Started swimming instead. Easier on the feet.
