Custom Dining Table
Building a live-edge walnut dining table
What it was meant to be
Making a large dining table from a single walnut slab for our new house. Wanted to learn traditional joinery and finish it with natural oils. Planned to be the centerpiece of our dining room.
Where it stopped
Purchased the walnut slab ($800). Built the base frame. Started sanding the top. Had all the tools, materials, and skills. Table was about 60% complete.
Why it stopped
Got a job offer across the country. Had to move in 6 weeks. The partially finished table was too large to move and too unfinished to use. Sold the slab to a local woodworker at a loss.
What, if anything, replaced it
Bought an IKEA table for the new apartment.
