Collecting recipes from neighbors to preserve our street's food stories
What it was meant to be
Going door-to-door on our block collecting family recipes and food stories from neighbors. Wanted to document the cultural diversity of our street through food before people moved away. Plan was to print 100 copies and give them to everyone on the block.
Where it stopped
Collected 45 recipes from 22 families. Tested and photographed about 30 of them. Had all the stories transcribed. Layout was designed. Just needed to finalize the book and send to printer.
Why it stopped
The neighborhood changed faster than I could finish the book. Three families moved away mid-project. New people moved in who weren't part of the original vision. The street didn't feel like the same community anymore. Finishing the book felt like documenting something that was already gone.
